NHLThere may be a recession, but the National Hockey League didn’t feel its effects on the first major shopping days of the Holiday season.

The NHL reports that online sales, through shop.nhl.com were up 67 percent from Black Friday and up 10 percent for Black Monday from this time last year.

Top selling items, so far for the league, include third jerseys by the Flyers, Bruins, and Penguins, NHL Winter Classic merchandise, and DVDs.

"The strong performance of the Shop.NHL.com can be attributed to our strong fan demographics, the product access constraint that we're relieving with an unparalleled variety of NHL merchandise, and a well-executed marketing plan," said Perry Cooper, SVP of Digital/Direct Marketing and Fan Analytics.  "Another important factor is the finely-tuned programming experience at NHL.com, which has enabled very effective contextual sell-through."

NHL Powered By Rbk Store

For Black Friday weekend (Friday-Sunday), comparing with last year's Black Friday weekend, the NHL Powered by Rbk store was up more than 10%. The league reports that top sellers included a complete assortment of the eighteen new third jerseys, holiday-themed ornaments and gifts, knit headwear, and Vintage apparel.

“With a full year under our belt, there's a more pervasive awareness of the flagship NHL shopping experience," said Dan Near, the NHL's Senior Manager of Retail Sales and Marketing.  "With an emphasis on creating a multi-sensory retail experience while delivering the deepest and most authentic collection of NHL merchandise anywhere, the store continues to define itself as a destination for anything and everything hockey."
