As part of a restructuring of his assets, George Gillett is considering selling the storied Montreal Canadians, according to Canadians president Pierre Boivin. "We're not hiding it; we're going through a very difficult economic period," Boivin told La Presse in Montreal. The possible sale of the Canadians was later confirmed. "The Gillett family has retained the services of financial advisors in order to assess various strategic alternatives to optimize the value of its corporate assets," team president Pierre Boivin said in a statement given to ESPN.com. "In Canada, the Gillett family has retained the services of BMO Capital Markets and the process is under way." Gillett’s holdings not only include the Canadians, of which he owns 80.1 percent, but 100 percent of Bell Centre, 50 percent of soccer’s Premier League club, Liverpool (Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks owns the other 50 percent), and owns NASCAR’s Richard Petty Motorsports (the team formerly known as Gillett Evernham).
